As a parent, the joy of having a child that could live a normal life like any other children shattered when knowing the news that my daughter who was diagnosed with severe to profound hearing loss for both ears at the age of 5 years old. Every time looking at my adorable daughter’s face, tears and unaccountable worries mingle in our minds until one day when we come to know about 20dB Hearing.

Giving her a pair of Siemens hearing aids has brought the joy of hearing back to life for my daughter. It is so good to see her now able to hear so much noise of the world and no longer living in her own quietness. My father is a cheerful man, with tonnes of wisdom in his conversation. I grew up looking forward to having time spent together with him when he was back from work. My mother would lovingly put something together for tea—usually a simple local delicacy and a nice big koleh of Indian tea. It was unmistakably the party of the day. We would gather to have tea in our front porch, with our iron swing, mango and rambutan tree and bougainvilleas all around. My father would always take a keen interest in our day- 3 teenagers with hectic, energised lives and listen to our stories and share his.

Someway, along the time I was away from home, I began to suspect his difficulty with hearing as he began having trouble keeping on the thread of conversation via the phone. Family members use to joke that the best and most inexpensive hearing aid, costing under 20 cents, is to simply place a black button in your hear— instantly, everyone speaks louder to you! With subtle coaxing and introduction to the hearing aid technology over what seemed like 5 years, I was happy as a lark the day my father decided for himself he would give it a go! It was amazing watching him brighten up when he had it switched on— almost like a groom on the day of his wedding.

Hearing aids have changed so much in technology- with the birth of analogue ones, digital ones even those that are designed to mimic the ear function so naturally close. Hearing aids even come in shades of colours to match the skin! I am glad my father found a good audiologist and received one that matched his needs.

I was amazed by it as I could hear clearly several times better than my analog hearing aid. It was crystal clear. UNITRON MOXI 8, is smaller than my analog model, light as a feather and its wire is so thin, it is hardly noticeable. The sounds are so natural and comfortably clear that sometimes, I forgot I am wearing it.

Several months later after wearing it, I decided to have a pair to balance my hearing. They perform even better. With a smart control, adjusting the volume becomes easy. Now, I don’t go outside without wearing it. It has become part of my life. Today, I can have a normal conversation with anyone anywhere. Thank you 20dB Hearing, I have my quality life back.

Hearing loss exists when there is diminished sensitivity to the sounds normally heard. I have hearing loss at both sides at newborn baby age. My parents didn’t know that I have the problem of hearing since Standard 1. In Standard 1, I also have problem pronouncing r, ch, s when I am having a conversation. For that I am very thankful for the time and effort my mother put into teaching and training me. Due to the hearing problem, I was not able to concentrate in my studies in school and my results were poor. My parents brought me to a clinic for a check-up, but the doctor told me that I was fine. My parents brought me to the government hospital to get my hearing checked. After that, I was told that I have hearing loss and I need device to help me hear better.

We were recommended to 20dB Hearing and their audiologist introduced a device called hearing aid that can improve my hearing. At first I felt embarrassed to wear a hearing aid because I thought hearing aids are only for the elderly folks. But I felt much better with the motivation and confidence given by the staffs and my parents. They were friendly to me and their service were excellent. With the help of hearing aid, I can hear bird chirping, water dripping and other wonderful sounds. Thanks to the hearing aid, I managed to pass my exams with flying colors and I will matriculate at a local community college. I appreciate the kindness and friendliness of 20dB staff. Last but not least, I thank my parents for giving me my hearing back.
