A Brief Introduction to Hearing Aid Accessories

What does a charger, a handphone cover and tempered glass have in common? They are all accessories of a smartphone. Likewise, hearing aids come equipped with their own respective accessories. These additional paraphernalia help to maintain the performance of your hearing aids at the optimum level. So let's get to know some of them.

Batteries

Batteries are the beating heart of every hearing aids. They come in two categories: rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries. Non-rechargeable batteries are typically made of zinc and are available in 4 different sizes. They can last anywhere from 4 days to 3 weeks based on an 8 hour per day usage. Make sure you choose the right battery to power your hearing aid! Rechargeable batteries are even cooler. Simply pop the rechargeable hearing aids into the charging box at night and they'll be ready for another full day of use tomorrow.

Drying Jar & Silica pellets

We all know how hot and humid Malaysia gets during the daytime. Therefore, it is understandable that some of us produce copious amounts of sweat, especially during vigorous activities. However, you should keep in mind that since hearing aids are electronic devices, they can succumb to internal damage and corrosion should it be exposed to moisture for an extended period of time. Fortunately, we can combat this issue by storing our aids in a drying jar at night or when not in use to extract the moisture within. But drying jars are only as effective as the silica pellets inside it. These pellets do the actual work of dehumidifying the hearing aid, but over time, it can lose the ability to dry. Therefore, it is recommended that you change these pellets once every 4 weeks for ideal drying quality.

PerfectDry Lux Electric Dryer

If you find the idea of periodically changing the silica pellets tedious, or wish to reduce the amount of waste you generate, we have a solution for that. The PerfectDry Lux electrical dryer combines a heating and desiccating element into one compact easy-to-carry box that can be plugged in to the electric socket or your laptop. Hot air wafts over the hearing aid and speeds up the dehumidification process naturally. In addition, the box contains a 360o configuration UV-C lamp that automatically disinfects your hearing aid. This sterilization process means you no longer have to worry those pesky bacteria strains colonizing your hearing aid. Care Kit

Care kits come with an air blower, a brush and a cleaning spray. After rinsing your ear molds, the air blower can be used to expel any remaining water by gently squeezing the bulb several times. Hence, air blowers usually come with Behind-The-Ear hearing aid models. Another component of the care kit is the brush. We recommend that you use the brush to dust away any dirt or debris that accumulates on your hearing aid. Finally, we have the cleaning spray. This spray is specially formulated to help clean away any stubborn oils or grime on your ear molds or hearing aid domes, leaving them  feeling fresh and immaculate. Be reminded, however, that you should not spray the hearing aids directly. Instead diffuse the cleaning solution on to a piece of tissue and wipe gently.

In general, when you purchase a pair of hearing aids, these basic accessories will come bundled together as a package. Your audiologist will teach you how to use them to prolong the lifespan of and derive maximum benefit from your hearing aids.
